Shark on the beach scare for celebs

Celebrity surfers like Matthew McConaughey, Adam Sandler and Cameron Diaz have been warned to stay out of the water at a Santa Monica, California beach after a shark was spotted in the sea. Actress Helen Hunt and Mad Men star John Slattery are other regulars on that stretch.

The stars have been put on high alert after a great white shark, measuring between eight and 10 feet (2.4 to 3 metres) long, was recently snapped leaping out of the water off the California coast.

Surfer John Philbin, who appeared in Point Break alongside the late Patrick Swayze has said: "People are taking this seriously. It’s kept more than a few people out of the water this week."
