The movie, Disney’s A Christmas Carol is based on the book with the same name by Charles Dickens. This is a 3-D movie produced by the process of ‘performance capture’.
The movie is packed with dazzling special effects. However there are some scenes frightening which can be frightening for those below 8 years of age. It is basically a family
fantasy movie recommended for those above 8 years of age.
Jim Carrey can be seen in multiple roles including that of Ebenezer Scrooge and the spirits who visit him. In the plot, Scrooge is portrayed as a person who doesn’t show compassion or love towards people. He even disregards the feelings of his employee, Bob Cratchit and his own nephew, Fred. He treats people on the basis of the wealth they have amassed. It is around Christmas and Scrooge mocks about the merrymaking and joy in the people for Christmas. On the Christmas Eve, he is visited by three spirits and his already dead business partner, Jacob Marley and is taught a lesson that changes him forever.
Overall, Disney has done an amazing job. The performance capture and the 3D effects have been done expertly. But the movie has a shortcoming. Most of the characters sound and act like Jim Carrey. If we keep aside this loophole, the movie is fun-filled and worth watching with family. The movie begins with a few scary and dark scenes prior to the visit by Jacob Marley. But the movie also has some funny moments and festive carols.
The movie crossed a total of USD 30,051,075 in its opening weekend and has received mixed to positive reviews from the film critics. It has been given a 55pc rating by RottenTomatoes.com. You will also find a few scenes which are different from the actual script. For instance, Belle hasn’t been shown with her family, Scrooge falls into his own grave and many others.
Have a look on a fun fact of the movie. Jim Carrey has played seven roles for the movie. Doesn’t it seem interesting? However this has become a flaw in the movie due to the similarity in the acts of the characters played by Jim Carrey.
The camera work is superb. However due to extreme focus on the special effects and CGI, the plot has become a little weak and failed to come up to the expectations. The rhythm of the movie is slow and there are some scenes in the movie which have been added pointlessly and seem out of place. The film cast is good and all have done justice to their roles. The movie is a combination of dark as well as somber moments and a lot of adventure.
In all you can watch the movie with your family. Christmas is the best time to watch the movie. You can enjoy the movie with your family. You need to take care that the movie has some scary scenes and might not be suitable for your kids. However you will enjoy the movie!
